Creating Constantly

Recently I’ve stopped using social media to promote anything, as I don’t feel it has helped me. I removed Instagram from my phone and now have it only on my laptop and iPad for messaging friends. I did this as I found myself constantly doom-scrolling on the app looking for inspiration when clearly it was not going to give it to me.

Instead of scrolling aimlessly on the bus, at work, or even just while bored, I have started carrying this little waterproof Samsung action camera. Honestly, it’s not exactly good quality, but it’s the perfect size and has that great dad cam style footage without any of the bulk of those camcorders. It has allowed me to just start recording certain parts of my day or things that aren’t able to come across well in a still photograph. For example, when we have massive rain a black and white film shot would not show nearly enough. But some old crappy handheld cam style footage is perfect.

So what am I going to do with all this footage I’m recording? Well, I’ve always enjoyed making videos and have dabbled with YouTube throughout the years, so I’m going to piece these little films together, add in some of the still photos I’ve shot also and then publish them on YouTube and link them to here.

I hope using motion may allow whoever reads this blog to gain a bit more of an insight into how my brain works and why it comes up with the sometimes odd trails of thought, and also provides my voice so you can read my words in the way I actually say them when I write them down.

Anyway here’s January’s film. Please find this slightly pretentious, somewhat over-the-top visual art style diary film fun. Also, please find the gallery of work I made below.
